Distinct semiotics
The design of the Structures Collection takes its inspiration from centuries-old Chinese stamps and ethnology and from the long-forgotten architecture of ancient civilisations from Latin America to Africa – fragmented inspirations that are deconstructed from their original context and reinterpreted into a contemporary universe of patterns that are rendered in rich colours. All four styles from the Structures Collection share a warm sense of embrace and reflect modern-era design humanism.
The collection is hand-tufted by skilled craftsmen and woven in a part-bamboo, part-New Zealand wool yarn. The bamboo element gives a smooth, silky surface; wool supplies wear-resistance and strength.
"Our goal was to create non-representational forms that nonetheless awaken a response. They are reminiscent of our past", says Thomas Lykke, Head of Design at OEO Studio.
